Greensburg, KS Animal Search and Rescue Effort

The Emergency Equine Response Unit was dispatched to Greensburg, KS to assist local animal resources with both small and large animal rescue and first-aid by the state of Kansas Animal Health Department. EERU responded with 20 live traps and the large animal rescue trailer to help secure lost and disoriented pets of Greensburg residents. In a little over a week, resources recovered over 250 animals from Greensburg and surrounding areas. EERU not only participated in small animal rescue, we were also dispatched on a rolled SUV and bumper-pull trailer that resulted in a gelding with a lacerated forehead, and in a separate incident, a mare with an avulsion to the front right leg. Both horses are expected to fully recover. EERU would like to acknowledge the diligent and everlasting hard work of the volunteers who contributed to the animal rescue projects in Greensburg. EERU would also like to thank Dr. Christine Skaers and her vet staff for providing medical assistance to the hundreds of animals that came through the temporary animal shelter located Greensburg, KS. Our prayers and best wishes are with the residents of Greensburg, KS, the volunteers and responders for a full recovery from this tragedy.
