Donate to the Windsor Fund

The "Windsor Fund" was developed for our beloved thoroughbred we adopted to utilize in our Basic Equine Awareness & Rescue (B.E.A.R.) Level I class.

He is such a wonderful guy, but has been having a few health issues. Windsor has now lost all of his bottom incisors. The veterinarians are puzzled as to why this occurred; it is so unusual for horses to lose that many teeth at one time. When the condition first manifested, we noticed a large lesion near the throat latch area, a biopsy was taken and it turned out to be an infected lymph node, which in turn was caused by his badly infected lower incisors and gums. The teeth were so loose the veterinarian literally pulled them out without the use of instruments, of course Win was sedated. After a long round of antibiotics everyday, he has recovered quite nicely and has learned to adapt to his new way of grazing, with his tongue and upper incisors. We supplement him with a nutritionally complete pelleted feed and LOTS of treats (which he doesn't mind at all) and will continue to do so for the rest of his life. He is maintaining his weight and seems to be quite happy with all the spoiling he gets. He also has Heaves, so we have to watch him closely for any flare ups. We will continue to keep him working in our B.E.A.R. classes, as a hands-on demonstration horse for the Basic Equine First Aid portion of the class, as long as he likes to work. He loves the attention from our students! If and when the day comes that he doesn't enjoy it anymore, we will of course retire him from the class. We don't foresee that happening anytime soon, though.

The Windsor Fund will help with his upkeep and future Vet bills, which are inevitable. As we are a not for profit organization, our funds are not abundant and the extra cost of keeping Windsor at optimal health are, of course limited. Our long term goal is to continue to give him the best care possible, no matter what.
