About the EERU

The Emergency Equine Response Unit (EERU) is dedicated to training, education and providing a professional, organized response to equine and large animal emergencies. EERU is a non-profit, 501c3 organization relying solely on corporate sponsorships and private donations.

EERU is insured and complies 100% with Federal Motor Carrier safety standards to provide professional transportation for large animals.

We Are National Disaster Responders

EERU serves as national disaster responders with the Code 3 Associates Essential Animals Team (EAST). EERU not only serves as a large animal rescue team for EAST, but also is trained to do small animal rescue in most disaster situations. When responding with Code 3 in a disaster, EERU works off of the Code 3 Mobile Command Center Big Animal Rescue Truck (BART).

BART contains a 4x4 vehicle, two-horse trailer and two rescue boats. Included in the center is gear for water, fire, and technical rescue, a surgical suite, over 125 cages and crates for small animals, portable corrals, beds for 9 people, a bathroom including shower and enough food and water for humans and animals for one week.

There are no fees charged for our animal disaster response. We are supported primarily through tax deductable donations.
